West Coast Spatial Plan

WESTERN CAPE, SOUTH AFRICA

This office was responsible for the drafting of the West Coast Subregional Structure Plan, the first of its kind in the Province.

The aim of the study was to establish a policy framework within which development and conservation could be managed in regional context.

The key proposals formulated through this study were:

a) To address the conservation and development challenges within the framework of bioregional planning principles and;

b) To manage land-use and development planning issues in accordance with UNESCO’S Man and the Biosphere (MaB) program principles.
