DMP was appointed to prepare the Winelands Integrated Development Framework (WIDF) and more specifically to prepare the Winelands Spatial Development Plan in terms of the Province’s Planning and Development Act.
The Winelands Integrated Development Framework (WIDF) serves as the overarching policy framework in terms of which planning, design and development actions are to be undertaken in the former Winelands District Council on 26 October 2000.
The WIDF supports the provincial definition on bioregional planning namely that bioregional planning is ‘planning and land development that achieves sustainable development by recognising the relationship between biodiversity conservation, human well-being and economic efficiency, within a geographical area’.
The WIDF is supported by the Winelands Spatial Plan (WSP), the basic aims of which are the following:
a) It indicates the spatial implications of the WIDF.
b) It lays down strategies, proposals and guidelines for the future spatial development of the Boland District.
This includes, without being limited to, development objectives, proposals for land reform, urban renewal, reconstruction, integration, environmental planning, transport planning, infrastructure planning, and urban design.
